Bull Terrier

Dimensions30 × 40 cm

This painting has a special story for me, because it was created not just as a portrait of a dog, but as a gift that was supposed to bring the child closer to her big dream. The customer of the picture was the father of the boy, who dreamed of a bull terrier dog. Unfortunately, at that time it was impossible to fulfill this dream. However, the father wanted to give his son at least a part of what he dreamed of so much. That's why he decided to order a portrait of a bull terrier for him. For me, it became not just a creative task, but an opportunity to depict a dream on canvas. I wanted the dog in the picture to look not like an ordinary portrait of an animal, but like a real little friend who will now remain next to the boy forever. In every look, features of the muzzle and character of the bull terrier, I tried to convey the energy and peculiarity of the breed that so fascinated the child. After all, when we really want something, we often imagine not just an object or an animal — we imagine the emotions that they will bring into our lives: friendship, joy, care, common moments. This portrait has become a kind of symbol of the fact that a dream can exist even when its implementation needs to be postponed. Yes, the real dog is not around yet. But now the boy has his image - created especially for him and forever preserved on canvas. I especially like the idea that art can sometimes do what reality can't do. It is able to preserve the dream, bring it closer, make it tangible. And maybe someday this portrait will hang next to a real bull terrier. Then this picture will be a reminder of the time when the dream still seemed unattainable - and how strongly it was believed.
