Mono Dog

Dimensions40 × 60 cm

In this work, I created my own interpretation of one of the most famous images in world art - "Mona Lisa", replacing her portrait with the image of an American spaniel. I was interested in transferring the famous mystery and character of the original image to the animal. The American Spaniel in the picture has the same calm, slightly mysterious expression that makes the viewer stop and think: what is he "thinking" now and where exactly is his gaze directed? I deliberately left the recognizable features of the composition, but changed the main character, creating a kind of dialogue between classical art and a modern view of it. The familiar image acquires a playful, ironic and at the same time elegant character. The American Spaniel here appears not just as a dog, but as a new hero of the famous masterpiece. His look, posture and atmosphere of the picture create the feeling that he also keeps some secret that each viewer can interpret in their own way. This work is about playing with the history of art, rethinking the classics and the opportunity to see the familiar in a completely new way. I wanted the picture to evoke a smile, interest and a desire to consider the details at the same time. After all, if the mysterious smile of Mona Lisa does not give people peace for centuries, then why not an American spaniel try to keep his own secret?
